Roller Press Universal Joint Coupling

Universal joint coupling is the core component of the roller press transmission system, mainly used to connect two transmission shafts on different axes, to achieve power transmission while compensating for axial, radial, and angular deviations. In industrial applications, universal joint couplings can effectively solve shaft misalignment problems caused by installation errors, foundation settlement, or thermal expansion.

Compared with traditional rigid couplings, universal joint couplings have greater angle compensation capabilities, generally up to 15 ° -25 °, and some special designs can even reach over 40 °. This characteristic makes it particularly suitable for heavy-duty equipment such as roller presses, which can withstand high torque while adapting to various complex working conditions.

A typical roller press universal joint coupling consists of the following key components:

  1. Cross shaft assembly: composed of a cross shaft and four bearings, it is the core component for transmitting torque and achieving angular deflection

  2. Flange fork: a component that connects the two ends of the drive shaft and the driven shaft, usually forged from high-strength alloy steel

  3. Bearing sealing system: including oil seals, dust covers, etc., to prevent grease leakage and impurities from entering

  4. Lubrication device: centralized lubrication system or oil nozzle to ensure long-term reliable operation of bearings

  5. Safety protection device: Some models are equipped with shear pins or torque limiters to prevent overload damage

The working environment of the universal joint coupling of the roller press is harsh, bearing alternating loads and impact loads, so material selection is crucial:

  1. Cross shafts are usually made of alloy steels such as 20CrMnTi and 20CrNi2MoA, with surface carburizing and quenching treatment

  2. The bearings are made of high carbon chromium bearing steel such as GCr15, with a hardness of HRC58-62

  3. Flange fork heads are often made of medium carbon alloy steels such as 42CrMo and 35CrMo, with a hardness of HB240-280 after quenching and tempering treatment

As a key transmission component, the universal joint coupling of the roller press directly affects the reliability and production efficiency of the entire system. With the advancement of materials science and manufacturing technology, universal joint couplings will develop towards higher load-bearing capacity, longer lifespan, and greater intelligence in the future, providing more reliable power transmission solutions for roller pressing processes.
