As a key component in mechanical transmission systems, universal joint couplings play an irreplaceable role in pump equipment. It can effectively solve the problem of axis offset and achieve efficient transmission of power between axes at different angles.
The universal joint coupling for pumps allows the two connected shafts to deflect relative to each other within a certain angle range through hinge mechanisms such as cross shafts, ball cages, etc. When the driving shaft rotates, the rotational motion and torque are transmitted to the driven shaft through the intermediate hinge mechanism, even if the centerlines of the two shafts are not on the same straight line. This design cleverly solves the transmission problem caused by misalignment of the axis, making power transmission more flexible and reliable.
In pump equipment, universal joint couplings are mainly used in the following scenarios:
Connect the pump shaft and motor shaft to compensate for installation alignment errors;
Used for long axis or multi-stage pump sets to absorb deviations caused by foundation settlement;
Adapt to changes in axis angle in pump systems with special layouts;
A pump device that requires frequent movement or adjustment of position.
The cross axis universal joint is a widely used type of universal joint coupling, consisting of two fork shaped joints, a cross axis, and bearings. Its characteristics are simple and reliable structure, high torque transmission capacity, and allowing for larger axis deflection angles.
According to specific structural differences, it can be further divided into:
SWC type integral fork head type: The fork head and shaft sleeve are forged or cast as a whole, with good rigidity, suitable for heavy-duty applications;
SWP type partial bearing seat type: The bearing seat can be separated for easy maintenance and is commonly used in medium-sized equipment;
SWZ type integral bearing seat type: The bearing seat is an integral structure with good sealing performance, suitable for harsh environments;
WS/WSD Mini Type: Compact in structure, suitable for low-power transmission, allowing for larger deflection angles.
The bearing lubrication of the cross axis universal joint coupling is crucial, and good lubrication can significantly extend its service life. This type of coupling is widely used in the pump industry, especially in heavy-duty applications such as large water pumps and mud pumps.
